I never thought I’d be writing you a self-care post in the middle of a global pandemic, but here we are—and it’s so very necessary. In addition to new worry for our loved ones and ourselves, COVID-19 has brought all of our routines and plans to a temporary standstill. I’m not even going to say the new C word for the remainder of this post since it’s bound to raise your cortisol levels, and we’re all trying to find a way through that right now.
For most of us, the “new normal” is anything but. While it’s tempting to shut down, eating peanut butter straight out of the jar and napping like a narcoleptic are fine for a while—not to mention great short-term coping strategies—but continuing to do so for the long run will make you feel so. much. worse.
It’s more important than ever to make sure we’re taking care of ourselves physically, psychologically, and emotionally. Doing that increases our ability to fight the good fight and shortens how long it takes us to bounce back. And I want all of you lovelies to bounce back stronger, fiercer, and healthier than ever!
So here are some red hot tips for self-care during quarantine!
Wrangle Your Routine
I know it may feel impossible or maybe you are still vibing on not having to wear pants, but eating peanut butter straight form the jar or napping like a narcoleptic (while all very well in their way) will make you feel so. much. worse in the long run. Setting a routine and staying on it will organize your brain and give you immediate stability.
Go All In on the Little Things
As big things are falling by the wayside by necessity, now is the time for all those littlethings that charge your batteries but you never get to do.Read cool authors! Watch favorite movies! Do a Korean face mask every night! You not only deserve it—you need it.
Strengthen Your Immune System
While you definitely should NOT be buying any snake oil cures right now, you can keep your antibodies in fighting shape by taking recommended doses of Vitamin C and Zinc, two proven immunity buddies. And keep inflammation to a minimum by avoiding too much junk food and alcohol.
Make those Amazing Future Plans
Nothing pulls you out of the self-isolation doldrums like something to look forward to. And you have all the time in the world now to start making those big, bold plans. Walk barefoot through Paris, shower under a waterfall, or schedule that boudoir photoshoot you’ve been toying with the idea of.
Sexy Social Distancing
You may find yourself, shall we say, hella horny right now. That’s because one of our instinctive responses to stress is to reach out for comfort and closeness. Ironically, it’s exactly the thing you shouldn’t be doing unless you happen to be safely isolated with your partner. Sexting, video chatting, and sharing photos are all fun ways to get jiggy while maintaining a healthy bubble—and bubbles do burst eventually. 😉
I am so proud of everyone who’s staying the course on this one. You are all literal heroes who save lives. I can’t wait to see many of you at our sexy, restorative women’s retreat this November. Hey, now there’s a fun future plan! Contact me if you want more details.
